Broken to be Whole
by Lissa, 18, Lake Hiawatha, NJ
round and round and round and round
battle is silent, she
cries but makes no sound
and the cycle repeats, she
begs to be free
but she fears that maybe her
life is the
key
she wants to
escape, but she wants to
fight
to be free from where
nothing is wrong, but
nothing seems right
and she wants to
give up more than her
spirit and
soul
she wants to be
broken, so she can be
whole
Inspired
by Lissa, 18, Hiawatha, NJ
It is not I who writes my poetry
The rhymes, and lines, and prose
just like I didn't craft the bumblebee
to tiptoe on a petal of a rose
But the one who made the universe
scattered stars in the night
gave me the words to write each verse
He inspired me to write.
Confliction
by Jennie, 15, Sandia Park, N.M.
She stands alone in the light of a window
Emotions dancing across her face
The shadows creep up behind her slow
And lure, screeching "come and play"
She takes a wavering step forward
and cautiously peers in
That is when the battle
Inside her truly begins
Her demons scream at her loudly
With a million honey sweet lies
While the light from the window shines proudly
Whispering "here the real truth lies"
In the glass she sees her reflection
Her own sad eyes seem to spite her
As she struggles with the confliction
Of the devil and angel inside her
