Life as a Teenager
by Hannah, 15, San Jose, Costa Rica
Life as a teenager isn’t ever a treat
We try to fit in, but we always feel beat
Everything we do doesn’t ever feel right
We’re so insecure, we cry through the night
We know from our parents, we will always regret
Our mistakes from the past, we will never forget
We have to be perfect yet perfect is “strange”
We want something new yet no one wants change
We want to be loved, but not to be hurt
And once we are “loved” we’re treated like dirt
We’re testing our wings in this great big place
Wanting to win first in this great big race
The Outward facade is all that matters
All our dreams are broken and in shatters
Low self-esteem pulls us down like a weight
We’re just a face in the crowd, the whole world we hate
Is there a point to this life we are living?
Will anyone learn from the example we are giving?
Is it true we are abandoned; is there One who will care?
Is there a God who can hear from up there?
Just maybe there could be a small stream of light
To bring us some hope in this never-ending fight
What if there is a God who truly loves us all
Even us teenagers with faith ever so small
