Hey SUSIE girls! Meet gospel rock’s rising stars Decyfer Down: TJ Harris – Vocals, Brandon Mills – Guitars, Josh Oliver – Drums, and Chris Clonts – Guitars. Their sophomore album, Crash, released to the public in May of 2009. Fans responded by purchasing nearly 9,000 copies in its first week. The project landed in the No.3 spot on Christian Soundscan chart, debuted at No. 66 on Billboard’s Top 200 and topped the iTunes ® Christian chart at No. 1. During the early summer, they opened for Christian rock superstars, Skillet, during their 2009 Comatose tour.
And the INO rockers continued to dominate the charts in September 2009 when their single “Desperate” topped the Christian Rock Radio chart at No. 1. This was the band’s seventh consecutive No. 1 single on Christian Rock Radio following the success of their previous hits “Crash” and “Fading,” both from the Crash album, along with “Break Free,” “Life Again,” “Fight Like This” and “No Longer,” from their debut release, End of Grey.
“We’re very excited about the response for the new record Crash and to have our 3rd consecutive No. 1 single from this album has been very energizing to see,” drummer Josh Oliver said after the news of “Desperate” hitting number one. “We are super pumped about the fall tour with Skillet and Hawk Nelson and look forward to connecting with many ‘Decyferites’ and meeting new people along the way. We desire to bring the hope and truth that God has given us into people’s lives through the music and conversations this fall…Thanks, everyone, for your support!”
That was September. And in December 2009, they found out that not only was their sophomore project a hit with fans, it was also a hit with the music industry itself. Decyfer Down garnered their first GRAMMY ® nomination for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album of the year for Crash. The 52nd Annual GRAMMY ® Awards were held January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. While they lost the award to Christian rock legends, Third Day, the fact that they even received the nomination speaks volumes to exactly how good Decyfer Down actually is in their genre.
"We are very grateful and honored to receive this nomination,” Josh Oliver said upon hearing of their Grammy nomination. “It has been amazing to see the overwhelming response to Crash and we look forward to connecting with new fans on the 2010 tour. We are excited to represent our genre with such great fellow nominees."
In addition to their chart topping success, earlier this year the band’s debut single “Crash” was featured on America’s top rated cable television show World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hardy’s History Montage, a Brother vs. Brother WrestleMania preview.
“What a great bunch of guys,” says President of INO Records Jeff Moseley. “I love their music and their hearts. I am excited that others are finding out what we have known for years.”
