Confidentiality
It is the intent of this organization to support the offer of confidential communication which has been extended in good faith to the users of our services since our inception in 2009. This is not a new policy, merely a reaffirmation to confirm our long-standing practice. In general, records will remain confidential, with the following exceptions:
  1. When a direct and tangible threat is present and the chatter or other parties may be endangered,
  2. When the provisions of existing contracts, laws or regulations require disclosure,
  3. When other circumstances, as determined by the Executive Director, make disclosure the most appropriate choice.
Kansas law permits the release of confidential information in situations where serious danger to a foreseeable victim is present and where child abuse is suspected. The Executive Director is authorized to take such steps as he or she deems reasonable and necessary to protect the confidentiality of records. We are aware that this policy and our efforts to support it may not always shield the privacy of records.

Children’s Privacy Policy

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age; and that we obtain the consent of parents and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to use certain features of our websites. Below we explain how we do that for these "children." Also, when we use the term "parent" below, we mean to include legal guardians.

What types of personal information do we collect about kids?

Children can view some of our content without any personal information being collected. We do not collect personal information from children unless they register for the SUSIE  online sisterhood. We do not market our services to children under the age of 13, and the content on SUSIEmagazine.com is designed for girls from aged 13-18. However, the use of our services cannot be prevented if a child under the age of 13 chooses to do so. The only information we collect from children during our registration process for a free account is name, e-mail address, member name, and password. Once registered, we may collect the birth date, but at the user’s discretion. We do not collect any other personally identifiable information from children during our registration process. Note that all sites that are directed to children under 13 are prohibited by law from conditioning a child’s participation in an online activity on the child providing more personal information than is reasonably necessary.

We may collect personal information from parents to allow children to fully participate in all features of the SUSIE Online Sisterhood located on our website. These features may include one-to-one instant messaging, sending e-mail, posting on message boards and other similar activities. In the course of a child’s participation in these features, a child may also provide us additional information about himself or herself, such as the contents of his or her chat or message board postings.

How do we use and share the personally identifiable information that we have collected about kids?

If a child registers for a sweepstakes or contest, we use the parent's e-mail address to notify the parent of the child’s registration request (as described in detail below). To personalize communications to a child regarding a specific product, we may use the child’s first name combined with the parent's last name and a mailing address provided by the parent when signing up for that specific product. We may collect a child’s e-mail address from the parent in order to send the child a newsletter. In addition, personal information regarding a child may be collected and used to enable a child’s participation in certain interactive features, such as instant message chatting, sending e-mail, posting on message boards and other similar activities. These activities may involve disclosure of a child’s personal information to third parties. In addition, we may share a child’s personal information with third parties to the extent reasonably necessary to: protect the security of integrity of our sites; to take precautions against liability; to respond to judicial process; or to the extent permitted under provisions of law, to provide information to law enforcement agencies or for an investigation related to public safety.

We may amend our Children’s Privacy Policy at any time. We will apply material changes in our Children’s Privacy Policy only in conformance with applicable law, including any applicable provisions of COPPA that require parental consent.

This Privacy Notice was revised 3/30/2011.

The SUSIE Online Sisterhood
The SUSIE Online Sisterhood message boards are meant to be used as peer-to-peer support for Christian teen girls and teen girls sincerely exploring the Christian faith. They are intended to provide hope and encouragement for girls to live out their Christian values in daily life. Most of all, they are meant to glorify God through authentic Christian community and serve as a reminder to girls everywhere that they are not alone.

Terms and Conditions
It is important to realize that the information that appears on SUSIEMagazine.com is not meant as replacement for proper care from a doctor, therapist, nutritionist, support group or other medical professional. Always seek the advice of your physician, therapist, dietician, or other medical professional with any questions you may have regarding your health. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on this or any other website.

If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your doctor, therapist or 911 immediately. SUSIEMagazine.com does not recommend or endorse any specific tests, physicians, products, procedures, opinions or other information that may be mentioned on the site. Reliance on any information provided by the SUSIE Online Sisterhood, SUSIE Magazine employees, volunteers or members, others appearing on the site at the invitation of SUSIEMagazine.com, or other visitors to the site is solely at your own risk. In no event shall SUSIEMagazine.com, its licensors, its suppliers, or any third parties mentioned on the site be liable for any damages resulting from the use of or inability to use the SUSIEMagazine.com site or its content.

Rules of Engagement: The Online Sisterhood
1. No flaming or personal attacks. Be respectful of your fellow members. These forums are to be supportive in nature. We do not allow any behavior of an attacking and malicious nature to other members. We do not allow “flaming” or name calling. If you have a personal disagreement with another member, please don't drag other members into your disagreement by posting about it. Send us a notification by using the report abuse link and/or don’t engage with that person.

2. No duplicate posting (cross-posting). Everyone is encouraged to post in whatever forums they feel comfortable or in multiple forums as they wish. Please do NOT post duplicate copies of the same post in multiple forums. If your post or another member's post gets closed, don't start a new thread to attempt to continue replying to the closed topic. Posts that are a continuation of a closed post will themselves be closed.

3. No posts discussing a celebrity or person you know that relate to a suspected, rumored or confirmed negative behavior. We do not promote gossip or negative speculation about the lives of others.

4. No numbers relating to weight control (weights, clothing size, BMI, calories, etc.). No use of numbers (related to weight, calories, bmi, clothing size, desired weight-loss goal, how many days you've gone without eating, how many times you've purged, how many laxatives you've taken, etc.). This is not the appropriate forum for information of this nature and may pose as a trigger for other struggling girls.

5. No "tips" or "bragging" about anything that encourages others to self-harm. No sharing "tips" on how to perpetuate self-harming behavior — including tips on how to lose weight, purge, cut, or any other self-destructive behaviors that may go along with self-harming. We do not allow any type of "bragging" about your behaviors or positive comments about self-harm.

6. No "tips" or "bragging" about anything that encourages others in sinful behavior. This is a Christian site. There is to be no sharing of glamorized or positive stories about sinful behavior, promotion of sin or sinful behavior or bragging about your own sinful behavior or that or others.

7. No suicide notes. Suicidal posts or "goodbye" letters related to suicide are not allowed. Posts of a suicidal nature or that appear to be goodbye letters because a person is contemplating suicide will be closed and the member will be referred to real-time help from their family members or doctors and to a list of hotlines where they can seek help immediately. The God of the Universe thought you were worth making and loves you infinitely. We take that very seriously.

8. No serious medical questions (example: chest pains, throwing up blood, passing out) — we'll have to refer you to your doctor. These types of posts are not allowed. If you have physical medical complications that show you are in immediate danger, or if you have questions related to medications, the best anyone can do is refer you to realtime help. If you are attempting to figure out what is wrong (or for a diagnosis), you need to go to your doctor. If you want to share an experience or are looking just to relate with another and you are NOT in immediate danger, that may be okay, but moderators and administrators will evaluate on a post-by-post basis.

9. No links to negative & triggering websites (sites that encourage others to self-harm or participate in sinful behavior). You may NOT post a link to a website, your own or someone else's, that is specifically negative and triggering, that encourages visitors to participate in self-harming or sinful behaviors, that brags about participating in self-harm or sinful behavior, considers self-harming or sinful behavior an achievement or lifestyle, and/or that contains triggering content.

10. Use common sense. Don't post your address or phone number. Don't use your last name. Don't post personal contact and/or location information. Don't post information like your phone number or address for you own safety. Your actual e-mail address is not visible through your profile, so if you share that with other members, you do so at your own risk (we cannot be responsible for the ramifications). You also may not post this type of personal information about another person, whether they are a member here or not. Do not violate another member's privacy by posting personal information about them or by copying a post they have here and putting it on another site or elsewhere.

Additional Points to Keep in Mind ...

The word "fat" will be edited out of almost all post titles. With rare exception, we will not allow a post with the word "fat" in it, such as "I'm so fat" or "I feel fat." Fat is not a feeling.

Posts regarding SI/SIV (Self Injury/Self Inflicted Violence — also known as "cutting"). Posts related to SI/SIV should be placed in the Self Injury Forum. Many people are triggered by these types of posts and that is why there is a forum specifically related to this topic. Posts about SI/SIV in other forums will be deleted. Within the Self Injury Forum, posts with graphic details of self injury or abuse are prohibited and will be deleted. No tips, bragging or encouragement to self-harm will be tolerated.

Posts regarding Eating Disorders. Posts related to eating disorders should be placed in the Eating Disorders Forum. Many people are triggered by these types of posts and that is why there is a forum specifically related to this topic. Posts about eating disorders in other forums will be deleted. Within the Eating Disorders Forum, posts with graphic details of self injury or abuse are prohibited and will be deleted. No tips, bragging or encouragement to engage in an eating disorder will be tolerated.

You can click on the Report Abuse link to report a post to the administration of the site and the moderators of a particular forum.

Why Would I Use the Report Abuse link?
Message board communities are about the members. Members make the community what it is. Administrators and moderators are human — they can't possibly read every post, so the “report abuse” system helps us to spot something we might otherwise miss.

If you see that someone is violating one of the rules, just send us a notification by clicking the report abuse link. The administrators or one of the moderators will review the post and decide  what action needs to be taken.

Sending us a notification reporting abuse doesn't always mean a post will be closed — but the administrators and moderators will review it and try to make the most appropriate decision and take action (if any) that is fair and objective.

Report Abuse information is always kept private and confidential.
