I’ve never been a big fan of doing homework. I always felt if we went to school for 7 hours, why did we need to do more work at home!? Then I became a teacher and I learned that in some subject areas it truly is helpful to have some work assigned. Even through it sometimes is, this work shouldn’t be busy work. Homework should be an extension of what you were taught while you were in the classes.
Homework is a chance for you to practice what you’ve been taught and to apply the strategies you learned in new ways. I know it might seem otherwise, but teachers don’t assign homework and projects to make your life difficult. They assign these tasks to help you become a person who can think outside of the classroom. Homework and projects are your chance to master the skills you’ve been given and use them as stepping stones for the next challenges that will come your way.
Whether you love homework or loathe it – I want to challenge you to see it in a new light. When you’re sitting there, alone with your work, think about what it means to do quality work when no one is looking. In Matthew 6:6 Jesus told us, “Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”. What a challenge for us as women! What we do when no one is looking counts just as much as what we do when we are surrounded by our classmates and our peers. How we challenge ourselves when no one is looking over our shoulder says a lot about our drive, our character and our commitment to excellence.
Sometimes we are faced with a term paper and other times simple worksheets. No matter the level of difficulty I hope we can be women who do our best at all times. What we do in secret is important, even if no one sees it. We don’t have to be perfect in everything we complete but I think God calls us to give our best to him in all areas of our life.
Some of you are really good at keeping up with your homework, planning out how to finish a big project and turn in your work on time. Would you mind sharing some of your strategies with the sisterhood? When do you complete your homework? Do you listen to music while you work? Sharing your ideas will help everyone find a fresh new way to approach this never-ending issue called homework. Maybe you have a question for the sisterhood or for me. Leave it in the comment box below and let’s continue being life-long learners together.
You are amazing! I can’t wait to hear your ideas!
