It's a Small World

It's a Small World
When I was 4, I fell in love with the Disney World ride “It’s a Small World.” I was mesmerized by the “worldwide” boat ride with little people from different countries who seemed to be waving specifically to me. I showed my love for this experience by riding it 14 times in one day. My dad showed his love for me by riding along with me each of those 14 times.

While on that ride, I truly believed I could never enjoy or love anything more. However, by the end of the day, I had journeyed through the countries one too many times and was ready for something new.

I’m sure my Dad had many other rides he would’ve preferred over “It’s a Small World.” He barely fit in the boat, and I’m pretty sure the little people waving weren’t nearly as intriguing to a grown man. The reason my dad spent hours with me that day was because of his unconditional love for me. He joined me on this ride 14 times because I was his daughter.

An Everlasting Love
It’s easy to connect Valentine’s Day with the romantic kind of love—wishing you had a boyfriend or hoping your crush will ask you out in homeroom. (Let’s be honest, he’ll probably ask you out over text message.) It’s easy to get caught up in the flowers, chocolates and love poems. It’s easy to overlook the real love that’s right under your nose.

Your parents show you unconditional love every day. They may show that love by accompanying you on your favorite ride 14 times in a row.

They may show you love by taking you to dance class every Thursday or by praying for you each night. Whatever way they show you love, take time this month to thank them for their unconditional love, and if you can think of a memory similar to the one I just shared, try to thank them specifically for showing you their love for you in that instance.

My mom always takes me to sports practices, and my dad goes to work every day, you know, so we can eat. I think I really take advantage of it all and forget what a sacrifice every little thing is for me! I'm going to try to do things for them more and also realize what they're doing for me all the time.
